A Baldcypress by any other name would be as sweet – but this selection has an extra-sweet story. When your dad is a botanist and conifer enthusiast, you might just end up with a tree named after you. Bill Barger named this unique, dwarf selection of bald cypress for his son Cody and its distinct, delicate, feathery foliage that Cody once described as little feathers. As one of only a few deciduous conifers, the fine-textured, soft, sage-green leaves of Baldcypress turn a striking orange-cinnamon in fall and drop before winter, revealing the irregular, rounded form of branches beneath. While smaller and denser than the straight species, this selection produces clusters of rounded 1” cones in abundance.
