Love conifers but not their prickly needles? Or prefer not to have their bulky silhouettes blocking garden views 12 months a year? Then try this unusual Baldcypress selection. Its fern-like needles emerge in spring as a soft green, darkening through the summer months until the fall. Then they turn copper and cinnamon to make an elegant statement in the garden before falling to the ground into a showy carpet. The textured bronze bark adds interest to the winter landscape. Green cones appear in spring and resemble textured soccer balls about one inch across. By fall they turn woody and cinnamon brown in color. But wait - there’s more! It has no surface roots or bumpy growth often referred to as “knees.” This non-aggressive root system plus an unusual tight columnar form of stiff upright branches makes 'Lindsey's Skyward' an excellent choice for compact gardens, especially those with wet soils.
