Easy to grow and adaptable to a variety of conditions, Butterscotch Bluestar could have earned its name from its sweet demeanor, but it’s the golden-yellow fall foliage that really sets it apart from other Bluestar varieties. Stalks of slim, blade-like leaves emerge bright green in the spring and are topped by clumps of powder blue, star shaped flowers. After the fall color, the dried stems stay upright through winter, or until the first heavy snowfall. Butterscotch Bluestar forms a nice, uniform shape as a massed planting, but also catches the eye as a single clumped specimen, drawing year-round interest in the garden, but thankfully, not from the deer and rabbits.
