If you’re looking for a perennial plant that is a true standout, Lady in Black Calico Aster has you covered. Its bushy stature and fine texture add substantial presence to the garden while its purplish black foliage provides a delightful contrast to the greens of its neighbors. Topped in September and October by tiny pinkish daisy-like flowers, this mid-sized perennial creates an eye-catching pinkish haze. The flowers are particularly attractive to pollinators, including small bees, hover flies, butterflies, and others. This unique form of Calico Aster was a Dutch selection of our native species, thanks to Herman Van Beusekom, in whose garden it was discovered.

Conditions: Full sun to part sun; moderate moisture
Size: 2’-3’ tall
Zone: 4 - 8
Wildlife Value: Flowers attract various pollinators, including miner bees, sweat bees, hover flies, bumble bees, and many more
