Not many plants tolerate the unique, nutrient-deficient soils of bogs, but Wand Goldenrod just loves it. Found mostly in bogs and marshes of the coastal plain, this slender, spiky perennial is a late-summer bloomer, perfect for the rain garden or wet meadow. Striking yellow blooms reaching to the sky provide a crucial late-season food source for bees and nectar-loving butterflies, such as monarchs and swallowtails. This Wand Goldenrod will seed and spread through underground rhizomes but can be easily controlled, unlike some of its more enthusiastic goldenrod cousins. Due to its coastal nature, it can tolerate a little salt, so it works great in stormwater retention basins and other pavement adjacent areas. And don't forget, goldenrods don't cause allergies!
