With its pink and pendulous heart-shaped flowers and fern-like foliage, it's not surprising that Wild Bleeding Heart is a popular garden plant. Blooming in late spring and sometimes through summer, it provides a food source for native bees. Despite its rightful place as mainstay in native woodland gardens, it is actually quite rare in the woods of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. All the more reason to ensure you have a few in your garden!

Conditions: Full sun to part shade; average soil
Size: 1'-1.5' tall
Zone: 3 - 9
Wildlife Value: Flowers provide nectar for bees, especially bumblebees
