Fairy garden connoisseurs delight, Early Rue Meadow is the perfect addition to your collection! Found in open woodlands and moist meadows, this species has delicately lobed green-blue foliage somewhat reminiscent of our Eastern Red Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis) but with more movement and texture. Come early spring, Early Meadow Rue delights with panicles of yellow to light purple flowers resembling miniature jellyfish (well at least to us)! This species is both dioecious (separate male and female plants) and wind pollinated, so planting in groups will greatly aid in pollination. When planted in a mostly sunny site with soil rich in organic matter, Early Meadow Rue will grow fuss free and flourish for years to come.

Conditions: Full sun to part shade; medium moisture soils
Size: 1’-2’, 1'-2' wide
Zone: 4 - 7
Wildlife Value: Larval host for Canadian Owlet Moth
