Don't let the name bittersweet deter you! This species is the native species, not to be confused with the oft maligned (rightfully) Oriental Bittersweet. American Bittersweet is an exuberant vine that can create fantastic green walls along fences or other trellises. As a dioecious plant, male and female plants look a bit different, but when planted in close proximity, brilliant red fruits emerging from yellow casings decorate the branches well into winter. A fantastic alternative to the invasive Oriental Bittersweet and a potential addition to your 'winter decor' plant collection!
Note that these plants are not sexed.
