You've probably seen the non-native pink and purple Astilbe, but did you know we have a native species? While the flowers may not be as brightly colored, our native False Goatsbeard is not to be overlooked. With ornamental, fern-like leaves that add gorgeous contrast against large-leaved shade plants, False Goatsbeard can reach up to 6' tall in summer when its large, white, frilly flower plumes are in full display. A large and showy performer, this plant is a choice perennial for the shade garden.
Conditions: Part shade to full shade; average to moist soil
Size: 4'-6' tall
Zone: 5 - 8
Wildlife Value: Flowers attract bees and small butterflies
