Oconee Azalea, a native deciduous shrub, offers a spectacular display of fiery blooms in early to mid-spring. Its large clusters of funnel-shaped flowers, ranging from brilliant reds and oranges to yellows and pinks, attract hummingbirds and other pollinators, making it an excellent addition to a wildlife garden. It is thought that this species was collected and sent to England by John Bartram, famed Philadelphian and celebrated botanist, which could explain why, despite its American heritage, this species was first described by Kew Gardens in London in 1789.

Conditions: Part shade; moist, well-drained soil
Size: 6'-8' tall, 6'-8' spread
Zone: 6 - 7
Wildlife Value: Flowers attract hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies
